Every toy on a shelf started as a rough idea, and the gap between that idea and a shipped carton is where most new brands lose time and money. The path is more predictable than it looks once you break it into stages: a clear brief, a sourcing and sampling loop, tooling and production, compliance testing, and freight.
The brands that move fastest aren’t the ones who skip steps — they’re the ones who front-load decisions. Locking in your target price and timeline before you approach a factory saves weeks of back-and-forth later. Sampling is where most timelines quietly blow out, because it’s tempting to treat the first sample as final when it’s really just the start of a conversation about fit, materials and finish.
Compliance is the other place new brands trip up. Testing standards vary by target market, and leaving it until after tooling is locked in is one of the most expensive mistakes we see. Build it into the timeline from day one, not as an afterthought once a container is already booked.
